AxCrypt 2 reaches over 100 000 users, nominated for “Best Encryption Software 2016”
The first version of AxCrypt is currently being used by 10 million users worldwide. Since the launch of the new version in May, AxCrypt 2 has already reached over 100 000 users. AxCrypt makes encryption easy enough for all types of users, and was recently named “Best Encryption Software 2016” by PC Mag. AxCrypt has also been recognized by both the popular television series Mr. Robot and by hackers.
Stockholm-based AxCrypt allows individuals and small groups to encrypt their files more easily than any other encryption software on the market. By removing the complexity of strong and proven encryption technologies, the startup has in a very short time attracted more than 100,000 users in over 135 countries.
– Today you do not need to be a computer geek to be able to stop unauthorized people from accessing your files. Even grandmothers can feel safe and protected, says Svante Seleborg, founder and developer of AxCrypt.
The latest version of the software, AxCrypt 2, was named “Best Encryption Software 2016” by PC Mag only four months after the launch. Two months later, AxCrypt gets a seal of approval again, this time from the users, and reaches the 100,000 mark.
AxCrypt has made an impression even in popular culture. When the sixfold Emmy-nominated television series Mr. Robot aired its tenth epidose, the title was “eps2.8_h1dden-pr0cess. AXX”, which is the name of a file encrypted with AxCrypt.
– It is great to see the growing interest in cyber and file security, and we are very proud of our product. We also had a more atypical confirmation in the form of hackers taking over computers and using AxCrypt to lock them, says Zebastian Victorin, CEO of AxCrypt.
AxCrypt makes encryption easy by handling and editing encrypted files, providing secure sharing of encrypted files through “public-key cryptography” and secure file deletion. The program’s key manager, “Password Manager”, makes it possible to safely store passwords in the cloud and generate strong passwords.
The team at AxCrypt is now working to develop new features and to make the program available on more devices; smartphones, tablets and computers, and for both Windows and Mac users. Mobile apps are currently in beta and scheduled for launch in late 2016.
The story of AxCrypt started in 2001 when founder Svante Seleborg had to share confidential information over the Internet and could not find an existing software that was simple and easy enough to use for everyone. That’s when he developed and launched the first version of AxCrypt and shared it with the world, for free. In 2014, with over 20 million downloads worldwide, AxCrypt has grown to become one of the world’s most popular software for encrypting files. Svante then joined together with Zebastian Victorin and founded AxCrypt AB to take AxCrypt to the next level.
