SNOW locks in exclusive release on Sony’s PlayStation 4 while Poppermost secures VC funding

On the back of raising a new round of financing from some of Sweden’s most respected venture capital firms, Swedish independent game developer Poppermost Productions continues turning heads as they announce the exclusive release of their open-world, winter-sports game SNOW on Sony’s market-leading PS4.
Founded in 2012, Poppermost Productions is one of Stockholm’s hottest gaming startups. After being accepted into the Stockholm accelerator program STING FastForward last fall, the 3-man team immediately started making waves in the tech community. With an early round of financing from local Angels, Poppermost successfully released the pre-Alpha version of SNOW on Steam Early Access in late 2013. Now a team of 9, Poppermost has raised an additional 6 MSEK from GP Bullhound and Edastra Venture Capital, with existing shareholders also re-subscribing.
“It has certainly been an exciting year for us”, says Poppermost co-founder and CEO Alexander Bergendahl. “Between growing the team, continually updating SNOW and raising new rounds of financing, we’ve definitely been busy. We couldn’t be happier to welcome the experience and guidance of Per Roman, Robert Ahldin and their teams at GP Bullhound and Edastra.”
Additionally, Poppermost was at Gamescom last week and announced an exclusive deal with Sony to launch SNOW on the PlayStation 4 next year. Announced on-stage at the PlayStation 4 press conference, SNOW will be the first game of its kind to reach the next-generation of consoles.
“Launching on the PS4 will be a huge milestone for us. Not only is the PS4 the leading console of its generation, but it’s also the best way to experience the beauty and scale of SNOW”, explains Bergendahl, who was sitting in the audience when the announcement was made.
“We think that Poppermost’s in-development freeskiing game SNOW look very promising. According to our analysis SNOW fills a clear gap in the market and it is important to see young development teams address the large and growing console and PC market. Alexander and his international team are of the highest quality and we consider their energy heavily in our assessments”, says Per Roman, Managing Partner at GP Bullhound.
“In short time Alexander and his team built a different and high-quality game with great potential. We are excited that Poppermost received the resources needed to climb to even higher peaks”, says Robert Ahldin, Founder of Edastra Venture Capital.
